About the Item
The work called “Dream 3” is a part of the project titled “Dreams”(2019). The painting has its focus on a character found in a state of self-reflection and is mainly inspired by “The Cold Song” libretto of Henry Purcell’s opera “King Arthur”.
The person in the painting finds himself in his inner world where the objects around him are interpreted as abstract structures. This work express the idea
that in the moment of self-reflection the object world changes its dynamic and its normal course. “Dream 3” was inspired by the fact that people with mental disorders have a chaotic and particular course of reality.
The composition was executed using a mixed technique on canvas (oil, acrylic, spray paint and coal) combining the idea of a portrait with abstract elements. It partially reveals the character’s facial figures, covering its eyes and mouth with the purpose of creating an ambiguous image. The surrounding environment of the character is abstract, transparent and cold and aesthetically places the work between being fluid and forceful.
