Jean Jansem (Hovhannes Semerdjian) was born on March 9, 1920, in Bursa, Turkey. He spent his childhood in Greece but began to develop his painting aesthetic and artistic point of view, in Paris, France, where he gained worldwide acclaim as a French-Armenian painter. On his various canvases, Jansem created forms, lines, and colors with a particular sensibility, featuring a transparent and at times ethereal, yet tangible quality of the human condition.
