Father Rushing Home with an Armload of Gifts, The Saturday Evening Post Cover, December 4, 1909. A charming original cover for The Saturday Evening Post, published December 4, 1909, Joseph Christian Leyendecker uses his characteristic hatched brushstrokes to capture the energy and movement of a father hurrying home from the train across a snowy landscape with a Christmas wreath, a rocking horse, and wrapped parcel under his arms. Leyendecker was one of the principal cover artists for The Saturday Evening Post and created 322 covers for the publication between 1899 to 1943.
