What a fun surrealist painting by László Bornemisza, a Hungarian artist. Depicted a typical ‘Bornemisza’ landscape dotted with magical castles and little fairy folk.
Painted on Goldleaf in oil paint and a very smart little gold leaf frame. The small format is not untypical for László's work and little gems like this always find a spot on any wall.
Bornemisza started working life as a journalist befor he began studying art in Cracow, Polland. He moved to Sweden where he received a stipendium and then settled in Finland in 1966. I don’t know if László Bornemisza ever returned to his native Hungary, but he did pass on in 1995.
You need to seek out his work on the internet to see his magical imagination materialized. His work has constantly gained in popularity and his value has risen considerably since his death over 25 years ago.
