Franklin (Karl Mann Associates)
FRANKLIN Karl Mann Associates NY - Oil o/B - Brooklyn Bridge & Manhattan Skyline

c. 1965

About the Item

Franklin for KARL MANN ASSOCIATES, New York (American, active in the 1960 's) The boarded up Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Skyline - Oil on Fiberboard / Pavatex, ca. 61 x 76 cm - Wood frame, 72 x 87 cm - Signed bottom left Worldwide shipping is complimentary - There are no charges for handling & delivery. I don't know the artist 'Franklin' but I do adore this unusual painting. Spot the various, multi coloured old doors, that were used to fence off the bridge, during either maintenance, building work or just to keep out folks looking for shelter. Based on the skyline the painting seems to depict a scene somewhat earlier, than in the 1960's - I have a feeling the scene might have been created based say on an earlier photograph from the 1930's / Depression) - just a hunch ... I don't really know. Objects retailed in the 1960's by the Karl Mann Gallery in New York do pop up from time to time - mostly oeuvres of the 'folk art ilk' which in their own right command good prices. However, this painting is something else - extremely decorative and pleasing to look at, picturing a well known, yet most interesting, respectively unusual subject matter. PLease note, that worldwide shipping is complimentary - There are no charges for handling & delivery for this item. I am ASGrond - Art & Antiques. Passionate collector, purveyor and artist. He then decided to become a full-time artist and painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits/nudes in various styles up to his early death in 1955. Alphons Müller was the proverbial hardworking bohemian artist. He lived in a small cold room above a pup and often struggled to make ends meet. On one hand he would paint commercial views of local beauty spots - often of the Lake of Bienne. These paintings were generally executed using very thin paint layers (to make the expensive material last longer ...) in a very bright impressionist style. On the other hand, he would create intelligent, generous and deep reaching images - especially during the war. In the late thirties he meets his two loyal patrons, the baker Werner Gass and the pharmacist...

  • "The Arno" Italian Village by the River Oil Painting by Bruce McCracken
    Located in Pasadena, CA
This oil painting from the 65s by California Artist Bruce McCracken derives its title and inspiration from the mythical Arno River in Tuscany. Dividing the historic city of Florence into two distinct parts, the Arno has long captivated the collective imagination and continues to be a subject of exploration for many contemporary artists. Set against the backdrop of the Arno's picturesque banks, the artist likely sought inspiration from the vantage point of the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) in Florence. The painting is divided into two distinct horizons. The upper section showcases architectural buildings poised upon a medieval arch...
