MAX RABES German, 1868 - 1944 AN ORIENTALIST SCENE WITH MUSICIANS AND DANCER signed "Max Rabes" (lower right) oil on canvas 65 x 77-1/2 inches (164.5 x 197 cm.) framed: 70-2/3 x 83-1/2 inches (179.5 x 212 cm.) Max Rabes was a German painter born in 1878 and died in 1948. He is known for his unique artistic style that combined elements of Expressionism and Impressionism. Rabes studied art at various schools in Germany and abroad, including the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Throughout his career, he experimented with different techniques and styles, from realism to symbolism, before developing his own style. In his works, Rabes focused primarily on the human figure and nature, and used bright and contrasting colors to create emotional and psychological effects. His paintings often feature a strong sense of movement and dynamism, reflecting his interest in dance and music. Despite his talent and originality, Rabes struggled to make a living as an artist during his lifetime.
