"Pollonia Beach" small plein-air seascape painting of beach in Greece
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
Painted from life, from a beach, looking across a little harbor full of brightly colored boats towards a little whitewashed town. Along the shoreline are the remnants of a child’s sandcastle. Signed "Personett" lower left corner. Framed in a traditional black frame w gold trim. Framed dimensions: 13 x 12 inches Rachel Personett was born in Hawaii, but raised in Colorado. Being the daughter of a pilot she has always traveled extensively. She has studied part time at the Savannah College of Art and Design, The Angel Academy of Art, and finally settled on the Florence Academy of Art, graduating in 2015. In January 2016 she apprenticed the painter Odd Nerdrum in Norway for eight months. Rachel Personett works strictly from life, and enjoys the challenged of painting the ephemeral. Working from life provides the opportunity to travel around the world painting the ever changing people and landscapes. Artist Statement My mother had studied advertising in college, so she knew a lot about arts and good craftsmanship. She did talks at my elementary school each week and on a different artist. I remember being very moved by the images of Van Gogh and Andrew Wyeth. At the Florence Academy I really liked Sargent, Sorolla, Willard Metcalf, Henri Fantin-Latour and Velazquez. Indian Chief, 30's - gouache, 29x23 cm., framed
Located in Nice, FR
Gouache on paper by the native american artist Mopope. Dimensions framed: 35x28 cm. Stephen Mopope was born on 27 August 1898 near the Redstone Baptist Mission on the Kiowa Reservation in Indian Territory. Qued Koi was his Kiowa name, which translates as "Painted Robe," and is sometimes spelled, "Wood Coy." His maternal grandfather was Appiatan, a famed Kiowa warrior, and his great-uncles were Silver Horn and Oheltoint (Ohettoint), both of whom were accomplished artists. Oheltoint was one of the Fort Marion ledger artists.[1] Mopope's paternal grandfather was a Spanish captive, adopted by Kiowa chief Many Bears. When Mopope was a young child, his relatives observed him drawing pictures in the sand, so the artists in his family taught him how to paint on hides in the traditional manner. His grandmother was also instrumental in his early education. In 1916, Mopope attended St. Patrick's Indian Mission School in Anadarko, Oklahoma, where he received further art instruction under Sister Olivia Taylor, a Choctaw nun. In a move that contradicted US federal policy at the time, Susan Peters, the Kiowa agency field matron, arranged for Mrs. Willie Baze Lane, an artist from Chickasha, Oklahoma, to teach painting classes for young Kiowas in Anadarko. Recognizing the talent of some of the young artists, Peters convinced Swedish-American artist, Oscar Jacobson...

Millennials were raised to strive for the best possible life, because that is what had been given to them — access to opportunity, and the emotional support they’d need to achieve it. Hovering family and friends laud their successes, listen to their complaints, and clear the paths of the obstacles and challenges that made their own experiences so trying. And yet, despite this foolproof, cushy narrative that was created for them, millennials struggle, leaving the generation that raised them wondering — what happened? With the unrelenting exposure to news, social media, and the increasing societal pressures to “achieve” what their parents did amidst a completely different economy and culture, paralyzing anxiety and fear of the unknown future have taken root in their young minds. At the same time, they acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of their experiences, of race, sexual identity...

Artist Comments
Artist Sherri Aldawood shares her joy in painting her subjects in various lighting situations. In this piece, Sherri captures the brilliant light glowing behind her model while simultaneously painting a cool luminescent glow that shines above her. Warmth spreads around through her fiery red hair playing smoothly with the cooling tones of her green scarf and blue light. Painting in swift intricate strokes, Sherri creates a compelling portrait of a woman with a calm and gentle expression.

About the Artist
Sherri Aldawood didn't intend to always paint flowers, but over time her love of gardens started to permeate her art. She focuses on the light and color of the flowers on the canvas. Sherri prefers alla prima, working with wet layers of paint instead of letting them dry. She keeps the paint as wet as possible by using walnut and clove oil to extend the drying time.

Jacob Dhein's (US based) "Nude with Light Blue" is an oil painting that depicts a nude female figure with her black robe parted with a white patterned background Bio/artist statement: Jacob Dhein was interested in art as a child. By the time he graduated from high school, one of his drawings was exhibited on the wall of a local bank. It wasn't until he was a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that he decided to take a drawing class. He found this so compelling that he continued with sculpture and painting. During this time he met several accomplished and influential artists who encouraged him to pursue a career in art. Tc Farley...

In the Calm, Oil Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Gary Leonard juxtaposes a realistic figure clothed in a floral dress against a dreamy background that hints at a wild garden. The spotlight heightens her reserved gesture and timid expression while giving her skin a soft glow. Shadows on her face, neck, and body create a striking contrast to the lighter tones of the composition. "This work creates an atmosphere of calm, blending the woman's soft countenance and pastel greens of nature. "

About the Artist
Through composition, color, texture and more, Gary Leonard celebrates beauty. His works start with the subject, but then he lets the work evolve into a more complex composition. Oftentimes, he enjoys merging figures with abstract images and varying textures. He hopes that his works will leave the viewer with a sense of warmth and peace. When he's not making art, he enjoys listening to music and learning how to play the piano.

Loose Lips Sink Ships, Oil Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
"The flowers hide the face so that you don’t make assumptions about the model, you focus on the beauty of existence," states artist David Shepherd. "You appreciate that they are a person without any impressions of their character. When I compose a painting I think back to my childhood memories. It ties in with what I was saying above. When you’re a child it’s much easier to make friends and enjoy people. That innocence allows for such pure emotion. I always try and get back to that feeling when I’m composing my work."

About the Artist
Canadian artist David Shepherd fuses techniques from both old and modern masters to create contemporary interpretations of the human form. While offering strong nods to pop art and cubism, the work remains grounded by David’s training in 19th Century academic realism. Combining discrete techniques within a single tableau is initially jarring to the viewer, creating an unexpected visual complexity in the work and demonstrating the artist’s breadth of skills. “I think in the future we will be much more interested in works of art that show a mastery of multiple styles,” says David. Each artwork effectually suggests the surreal nature of human existence within a convoluted modern society.

"Standing Nude with Blue" Oil Painting
Located in Denver, CO
Jacob Dhein's (US based) "Standing Nude with Blue" is an oil painting that depicts a standing nude female figure in profile with her face concealed by her dark tresses with a light blue colored background Bio/artist statement: Jacob Dhein was interested in art as a child. Crayons and colored pencils were his tools of expression. He spent hours intricately crafting drawings of comic book heroes and animals. By the time he graduated from high school, one of his drawings was exhibited on the wall of a local bank. It wasn't until he was a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that he decided to take a drawing class. He found this so compelling that he continued with sculpture and painting. "Morning Run" Oil painting
Located in Denver, CO
Lani Vlaanderen's (US based) "Morning Run" is an oil painting that depicts a pinto horse playfully frolicking and running Bio/artist statement: Living in the mountains near Rocky Mountain National Park Lani is never lacking something inspiring to paint, be it a grand sunrise on Long's Peak or a small sparrow perched on a pine branch. All fill her with the desire to put paint to canvas. Her goal is not to replicate what she sees, but to express her emotional response from the source of inspiration visually in paint and convey it to the world. She wants to communicate the awe she feels when in the natural world and the joy she experiences from seeing even the seemingly most insignificant moment in time that will never come again. She strives to convey her belief that all things, all beings, all life and non-life, share equal significance and are essential to the whole. "I began my art quest by taking a few classes at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, then enrolled in Kim English's class at the Art Student's Leaque of Denver. After four years with Kim and functioning as his class monitor, I had the opportunity to participate in a painting group with Richard Schmid in Loveland Colorado. I painted there with him for six years. I have taken workshops from such masters as David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw...

Civil Rights, Racial Justice Little Rock
Located in Miami, FL
"Civil Rights." Evergood's early commentary on racial issues in the 1950s depicts four black men gagged, roped and hanging from a tree. In the background, imprisoned blacks look on through a barbed-wire fence. Whites watch in horror but do nothing to help. Meanwhile, a two-legged and three-headed serpent who symbolizes evil - wraps himself around the tree that physically and symbolically separates the races. This is an important work in the history of American art. It may be one of the very earliest examples of a major American painter doing a major work that challenges racial segregation and injustice at a time when no one else would. The title of the work is inspired by a Historic Supreme Court decision on racial segregation. The Little Rock...
