“Untitled”
By Arthur Rosskam Abrams
Located in Southampton, NY
Original colorful and vibrant acrylic abstract figurative painting on heavy cardstock by the American artist, Arthur Rosskam Abrams. Signed lower left. Condition is very good to excellent. Circa 1975. The painting with abstract colorful figures was mostly likely executed in Sarasota where the artist had moved to in 1973. Framed with off white linen mat and gold leaf frame. Under glass.. Frame with some imperfections. Frame with “Frame St. Pete” label verso. Overall framed measurements 36.5 by 30.5 inches. Provenance: Sarasota, Florida collector. Arthur Rosskam Abrams 1909-1981 The following, submitted August 2005, is from Paul J. Abrams, son of the artist Born February 21, 1909 in Philadelphia, Arthur Abrams began drawing as a child of five, and continued producing art until just before his death in Sarasota, Florida during 1981. He began studies at the Graphic Sketch Club of Philadelphia, later teaching and exhibiting there. 1924 brought a scholarship to the Philadelphia College of Art, but his lack of interest in commercial art had him move to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In 1927 he went to Paris, studying where he could, including Academie Julian, The Academie Colarossi, the Ecole de la Grande Chaumiere, and then he found Andre L'Hote, who experimented with presenting space without perspective. Adams felt he had found what he had been looking for. Later he studied with Hans Hoffman at his School Fine Arts, Munich, where he became further convinced that art did not have to consist of a photo like quality of an object, but could be concepts, of personal expression of the artist. He toured around with other artists into Italy and Spain, meeting the artists of the day and painting. While painting around The Sacre Coeur some man, 'slightly under the weather' asked if he were an American. He replied that he was, and asked if he and the man had met at the Picabia exhibition, the man said they had, and his name was Maurice Utrillo. He told Arthur that if he remained there in France he will become a great painter, but if he went back to America he would become a businessman. He did return to America at the end of 1929 because his scholarship money was about gone. He had a one-man show in McClees Gallery, in Philadelphia, putting the proceeds of the sale in the Bankers Trust Company, which he lost when the company failed. He then traveled between Philadelphia and New York. In 1931, he did some traveling to Elmira to visit Sally Frank whom he had met in Philadelphia, and he also did and painting and sketching around the area. While sketching on the Louis Hoftrup farm near Elmira, Hoftrup came up to him and said he had a brother Lars, who was an artist living in New York and said Arthur should look him up when back in New York City. In September of 1931 his first New York one-man show was held at the Fifteen Gallery on West 57th Street. This was a gallery owned by artists to by-pass restrictive dealers and high commissions. Unfortunately a number of his paintings were kept in a studio in the Lincoln Arcade Building when it burned down. Still mainly in New York he became a charter member of the American Art Congress, and later of Artists' Equity. In the summer he went to Elmira where he, Lars Hoftrup and Armand Wargny...

Wedding Procession - Raised Line Woodcut Hand Painted 1924 Betha Lum
By Bertha Boynton Lum
Located in Soquel, CA
Wedding Procession is a colored raised line woodcut, done in 1924 by Bertha Boynton Lum (American, 1869 – 1954) . The image measures 13-7/8 x 10-1/8". Raised line impression and painted by the artist, while living in China. Image 13.25"H x 8.75"W Sheet 14.75"H x 10.75" (approx) Signed Lower center in pencil "Bertha Lum" New acid free mat included. Bertha Lum was fascinated by the legends and mythology of the Orient and wrote extensively about them. These legends provided the subject matter for many of her works in woodcut. Bertha Boynton Lum was an American artist known for helping popularize the Japanese and Chinese woodblock print outside of Asia. In May 1869, Lum was born as Bertha Boynton Bull in Tipton, Iowa. Lum's father was Joseph W. Bull (1841–1923), a lawyer and her mother was Harriet Ann Boynton (1842–1925), a school teacher. Both of Lum's parents were amateur artists. Lum had a sister and two brothers, Clara, Carlton, and Emerson. Education and career: In 1890 she lived in Duluth and listed her occupation as artist. She enrolled in the design department of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1895. A few years later she studied stained glass with Anne Weston and attended the Frank Holme School of Illustration. From November 1901 to March 1902, she studied figure drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and was influenced by the Japanese techniques of Arthur Wesley Dow in his book Composition, which was published in 1899. Lum married Burt F. Lum, a corporate lawyer from Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1903. They spent their seven-week honeymoon in Japan, where she searched for a print maker who could teach her the traditional ukiyo-e method. Toward the end of her stay in Japan, she found a shop that reproduced old prints. The shop sold her some woodcutting tools...

"Evolve & Wait"- Richly Colorful, Figurative/Abstract Mixed Media Painting
Located in Brooklyn, NY
John-Herbert was born in Miami and moved to New York city when he was 3 years old. As the son of a Filipno mother and bi-racial father, his multi-cultural roots at first felt like a challenge but with time, and especially through his creative explorations, he would create his own unique world. This would immerse into his work; containing multiple points of views. Inspirations from Basquiat to Van Gogh, Monet to Dali and Matisse; John-Herbert developed a Neo-Expressionist approach infused with surrealism, figurative, and abstract renderings. From the tender age of eight, Wright gravitated to painting as an escape expressing a rich inner world. His work heavily relies upon dark figurations amongst an urban landscape leaving the viewer space to navigate the world he creates. An analogy of the human condition; centering the female nude/mother and child as the protagonist, he tells the story of the broken seeking respite, the downcast, the other. Wright seeks to illuminate the universe of darkness within all of us, within himself, and that darkness contrasted with fragility has always been at the epicenter of his work. Wright has managed to create a niche for himself as a painter and street-wear designer, contributing to the role the graphic t-shirt played in disseminating New York street culture across the globe. Transferring the techniques of garment making onto his canvases, Wright’s paintings feature backdrops of multiple layers of silk-screened images, drawings and text. He has also expanded his avenues of expression, creating installations and even multi-sensory exhibitions, building even more detailed spaces to travel with him through. Although his success has been celebrated, in many ways till recently, Wright has also kept his own story on fade. This changed last year with his highly lauded solo show “Rewind & Reflect” (at the Blue Gallery...

"Family at the Fairground" by Painter Edgar Kiechle
Located in Pasadena, CA
The oil painting features a family at the fairground stopping by the ice cream stand. An elegant mother hands a treat to one of her three children, while another holds his ice cream, and the last one a red balloon. A couple with a child stands on the left part of the painting, while in the background, men sitting on stools face a cook at a counter. The latter looks down and focuses on preparing food for his clients. The overall impression is joyful and lively, though it looks more like the end of the day because of the dark warm colors used by the artist to depict the scene. Edgar O. Kiechle was born in 1911. He was a movie illustrator and a painter. Edgar studied landscape painting with Jean Mannheim, and architecture, and became an excellent watercolorist. After studying at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, he interned with leading architects and designers in the area. He worked at most major studios but his career as an illustrator saw him primarily at the Universal Studio Art department. In 1933, Edgar joined Lwerks as a background artist and worked on many films produced by Animated Picture Corporation through 1935. In the summer of 1941, Edgar Kiechle...

Diary Notes
Located in Hollywood, FL
Artist: Trude Viken Title: Diary Notes Medium: Oil on Canvas Size: 11.75 x 9 Year: 2022 Notes: Hand Signed and Dated on Verso. Custom Framed 13 x 11 Inches. Residing and creating in Oslo, Norway, Trude Viken defies artistic constraints as a 'colorist' of boundless imagination. Her canvases overflow with a mesmerizing fusion of flesh-toned hues, ashy grays, and enigmatic greens, juxtaposed with vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, and luminous pinks. The lingering aroma of oil paint fills the air, while her palette, comprising both earthly and otherworldly shades, simultaneously evokes feelings of sensuality and unease. Viken's art beckons an engaged audience to appreciate its tactile presence—a landscape crafted from the very essence of oil paint itself. In this regard, her creations resemble ever-changing weather patterns, as capricious as human moods. A visage morphs into a verdant, follicled mass, with a bubblegum-pink foundation, while white brushstrokes mimic the contours of clouds or wings. Her portraits, born from the ordinary, evolve into reveries that articulate our innermost experiences and our most tangible emotions, captivating us with their profound psychological depth. With Viken's deft touch, layers of oil paint transmute into swirling eyes, noses, mouths, ecstatic grins, or sly smirks, culminating at her discretion. Rows of contorted, molded faces...

Her thoughts not only accompany her but also shape the world around her, infusing it with explosive passion and glow. "Elixir" neon painting by Olha Vlasova
Located in Zofingen, AG
ITEM DETAILS The edges are painted Some parts of the picture glow under blue light ABOUT THE ARTWORK “Elixir" is a visual embodiment of love, portrayed as a powerful and a mysterious force that inspires awe and intrigue in hearts. The painting provokes contemplation on the duality of choice, how each time we choose one path, we renounce another. Its colors express the priceless experience that comes with the courage to know love, as well as the fear of the unknown that lies one step away from new horizons. The artist asks the viewer: Are you willing to take a risk for the unexpected, but perhaps the greatest experience of your life? ABOUT ARTIST Olha Vlasova...
