Angelo Granati
MEDITERRANEAN HARBOR - Angelo Granati - Oil on Canvas Painting

2009

About the Item

View of a Mediterranean Harbor - Angelo Granati Italia 2009 - Oil on canvas mis. cm. 90x110. This is his reinterpretation of painting "Seaport 1763" by gratest old master Claude Joseph Vernet. Born in Avignon, in the heart of Provence, Vernet made his first art studies in the south of France. In 1734, Vernet left for Rome to study the previous masters of the landscape but with his constant work he managed to create his own style. Already on his departure for Italy, from the port of Marseille, the view of the French coasts and the journey up to Civitavecchia deeply impressed him, to the point that, once he arrived in Rome, he immediately entered the studio of Bernardino Fergioni, a well-known artist of landscapes of mare, who became his best known teacher. Gradually Vernet attracted the attention of the Roman artistic environment. What distinguished him was the ability, starting from rather conventional designs, typical of the time, to merge usual observations with particular atmospheric effects and phenomena: this made his works very obsolete. Vernet, among other things, representing nature, left vast spaces (up to two thirds of the picture) to the sky, as well as to the scenes of daily life that animated the various places. Perhaps no landscape or marine painter has ever treated human figures like Vernet. That is, as primary elements of the scenes represented or in any case considering them as important factors of the overall composition.

In each painting, Pergola observes the world with deep care, outlining the most important values, the essence and the cosmic symbolism of nature.
