John Stacy Aumonier 1877 - 1928
This is an interesting painting of Ludlow by a most remarkable Artist. Stacy Aumonier started his professional life as a Painter, specialising in Landscapes but ended his days very much better known for his writing, especially known for his intelligence and wit.
The painting was owned for many years by Sir Julian Critchley who lived in Ludlow and had a large and interesting Art Collection. It is very much of the period when painting was changing from the Victorian realistic style to a more relaxed, impressionistic style with an emphasis on colour.
