Private collection, New York
Spruance utilized the same composition for his lithograph and painting of the same title, Late Departure, a view of the 1882 Gravers train station in northern Philadelphia. He adopted his distinctive vibrant palette to create exaggerated and simplified rhythmic forms. Spruance paintings from his most important period of the 1930s almost never appear on the market.
