About the Item

Cows is a 1 of 1 Monotype and displays bold and bright colors to highlight this abstract figurative work of art. This is a new series of monotypes by Charlotte Seifert that she began doing in 2023 It is 1/1 on paper in a custom frame which measures 37 x 50 framed. The monotype Cows by Charlotte Seifert is protected by conservation Plexiglass. Also shown are 0ther monotypes and monotypes/collages available on 1stdibs. This is the only print so that is why it is a monotype. New Work is a collection of monotypes and etchings. These prints were inspired by drawings made in places I enjoy. I have spent quiet, focused time recording trees and cows near the Brazos River, mountains and landscape in Santa Fe and balconies and parks in Paris. The resulting images compose New Work. The monotypes were made at Burning Bones Press, Houston, Texas. The etchings were editioned at Flatbed Press, Austin, Texas. A monotype is a print, but with one major difference from other printmaking processes: the artist creates exactly one print, instead of multiples (called editions). This is due to the way a monotype is made. To make a monotype, the artist applies paint or ink directly onto the plate — which can be metal, glass, Plexiglas, or even gelatin. The plate is pressed against the paper to transfer the ink. (So the finished print is a mirror image of what’s on the plate.) The printing can be done with a printing press or sometimes by hand. It’s a simple process that allows for lots of experimentation and variation. The artist can create layered prints, use objects as masks between plate and paper, or selectively apply pressure to create a trace monotype. Definitions Monotype A one-of-a kind original print made by putting ink on a plexiglass or metal plate. Printmaking paper is then put on top of the plate and the plate & paper are rolled through a printing press. The resulting print is called a monotype. Etching A print made by incising an image onto a printing plate, such as copper or Solarplate is called an etching. The plate is then inked so that the etched image carries ink. The unetched areas are wiped clean. Printmaking paper is placed on top of the plate and rolled through a printing press. Multiple prints can be pulled from the plate to produce an edition of etchings. Charlotte's work is largely abstract with landscape and nature elements incorporated into her work. Her inspiration comes from themes in literature, theology and personal history. Evoking an emotion or sense of place is Charlotte's focus rather than depicting a specific setting or rendering a certain object. Nature has become a metaphor for her for the current of constant change in life and love. This Houston based artist has been making art for most of her life. She was trained at SMU where she earned her BFA and MFA in painting. Her first art instructor was Roger Winter who was teaching a high school class at the Dallas Museum of Art. Her work has been exhibited in juried shows, one-woman shows and groups exhibitions. Charlotte has been teaching art for many years through private instruction as well as at private a private classical school. Also shown are other available works by artist Charlotte Seifert.
