About the Item
An oil painting on canvas and resin. The majority of the gessoed linen canvas is visible, the resin enhancing its texture. directly on the canvas are broadly painted impressions of water lilies and a light barely visible wash in places that could be interpreted as ripples in water. Above the resin are more lilies, painted in thick raised white and black paint. In the upper left hand corner of the composition willow leaves painted in black and white fall like a curtain over the water. On the left side of the canvas are splashes of black paint. The whole painting is reminiscent of and painted after Monet's waterlilies. This is a common theme in Yektai's work.

Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
