About the Item

Ridge (Contemporary Abstract Landscape Oil Painting of Peach Vines and Leaves Against a Blue Sky and Mountain Landscape) by David Konigsberg oil on panel 55 x 44 x 1.5 inches no frame required - painting is wired on reverse for easy installation *please refer to first image for most accurate color representation This painting is an exquisite example of the artist's unique ability to capture the very whimsical side of nature. Widely known for painting expansive views of the Hudson Valley where the artist often embarks on extensive hiking trails, Konigsberg uses an unexpected palette of pale peach and dusty purple in this composition that transports you to another world. The viewer has the experience that they are peering through a tangled web of vines and leaves, a wall that is about to reveal a stunning view of purple mountains and cotton like clouds. The sprawling motif emulates vines or botanicals yet shares pleasing abstract qualities that makes this painting truly one of a kind. David Konigsberg’s paintings reveal the visceral realities of nature. The landscapes that serve as the subject in his most recent work suggest a narrative of reflection and distance with pared down horizon lines, mountain ranges and land masses. Konigsberg explains, “In this, the most isolating era of my life, one aspect has remained unaffected: my penchant for frequent, solitary wandering, whether in the region around me, in coastal New England, or the microenvironments I cultivate in my own backyard. The natural world has long been the backdrop and source of my narratives, and this present body of work is clearly no exception. My paintings derive from both memory and photographic record—and of course the tenor of the moment in a time of profound events and challenging moods.” David Konigsberg is a conceptual realist who works across media and painting genres to portray transitional spaces, metaphoric moments and alternative histories. A long-time member of the Gowanus and Red Hook artist communities in Brooklyn, he is now based in Hudson and employs the area's landscapes as the setting and sometimes subject of his work.

  • The Orange Wall of San Miguel #2
    By Carole Garland
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark. Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street. This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40". Artist Carole Garland has appeared in numerous venues throughout Southern California, including several juried California Art Club exhibits and individual shows at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has recently appeared at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery; the Rose Cafe, Venice; Topanga Canyon Art...
