Derrik Van Nimwegen
Tuscany Landscape Panel #409

1989

About the Item

Abstracted landscape by Derrik Van Nimwegen (American, b. 1969). Moody and expressive, the "background" landscape captures the feel of winter with heavy clouds hanging over a burnt orange and dark blue horizon. In the panels that make up the "foreground" landscape, the same scene is reinterpreted, with a dusty orange and pink sky, implying a different time of day or a dramatic change in weather. Van Nimwegen has captured several moments from the same area and combined them into a single experience. There are seven panels in total. Gallery tag on verso from Sharon Traux Fine Art. Presented in a wood frame with a floating white mat and plexiglas. Art size: 10"H x 35.5"W (total size of all panels) Derrik Van Nimwegen (American, b. 1969) is a landscape artist based on the west coast. His painting explores his environment through both color and tone - the unique light of the cold months of winter is so essential to Van Nimwegen's work that he only paints plein air during this season. Van Nimwegen is a published poet as well as an accomplished painter. He painted in Europe, extensively in the Tuscany region of Italy, and his native United States, spending much of the winter months painting in the Santa Monica Mountains. Artist’s Statement: As a landscape painter, my intent is to strip away man's imprint and interference with nature and reach for a purer state of existence. My work concentrates on light, palette, and the natural environment. My recent work simplifies the landscape and concentrates on planes that come together to form edges. It is at these edges where life changes occur, or so it seems to me, and my paintings explore these changes.
