About the Item
The painting, painted from life, depicts the banks of the Main in the city of Würzburg in southern Germany. We see the city itself on the far bank. The river reflects the silhouettes of tiled roofs, the main cathedral and the city hall. The day is rather cloudy, as the ripples on the river are silvery and leaden in color. At the same time, on the near bank, covered with grass, the sunlit greenery flares up with bright highlights. The bushes and trees in the foreground are depicted in a light impressionistic manner with many brushstrokes of emerald, olive and silver shades. The same can be said about the work as a whole. This is more of a general impression of what was seen than a detailed listing of all the details.
