About the Item
Signed lower left, 'Ejnar R Kragh' (Danish, 1903-1981) and dated 1950.
After first training as a silversmith, Kragh turned to painting in the mid 1920's. Trips to France fueled his passion for both the art of landscape and his love of the Post-Impressionists. His abiding inspiration, however, came from the Danish towns and beaches that he loved, particularly the small fishing village of Gudhjem, which he made his summer home. He depicted the warmth and optimism of these places with a gently expressionistic use of light and color, and delicacy of style exemplified in this elegant and luminous landscape. Ejnar Kragh exhibited widely and with success, both in Denmark and throughout Europe including in Paris (1925) and at Copenhagen's Charlottenborg Palace (1939).

View All'View of the Seine and the Pont Marie', School of Paris, Post Impressionist oil
By Kay Christensen
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Initialed lower right, 'Kay' for Kay Christensen (Danish, 1899-1981), dated verso, "27 October 1948" and titled, 'Paris'.
A serene, Parisian cityscape showing an aerial perspective of the Seine and the Île Saint-Louis viewed from above the Quai des Célestins, and looking towards the Île de la Cité and Notre Dame in the distance.
This early Danish Post-Impressionist artist first studied with Marie Sandholt and Astrid Holm at the Copenhagen Art Academy and, subsequently, at the School of Graphics (1929-31). Christensen continued his studies while traveling widely in Europe, including to Germany and Austria (1913-14), Paris (1917-23) and to Budapest and Vienna (1934). In 1935, he was awarded the Michaelsen Scholarship which enabled him to remain in Paris during the late 1930's. During intense period of development and creativity, he moved away from the bold colors and defined forms of his earlier Fauve and Cubist periods and began to explore the creation of predominantly single-color works, often in blues or greens accented with subtle shades of white. After the Second World War, he returned frequently to paint in Paris.
Kay Christensen, like his friend, Rainer Maria Rilke, followed a solitary artistic path in which his imagery was characterized by a personal aesthetic of sensuality combined with a spirited boldness and expressive force. He exhibited internationally with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. Christensen's work is held in private and public collections including the State Art Museum of Denmark and Copenhagen's Metropolitan Museum, among others. We are pleased to offer this lyrical perspective of the Seine, the Pont Marie and the Île Saint-Louis painted...

By Serge Mendjisky
Located in Riga, LV
The Seine at the Louvre. Oil on canvas, 50 x 65 cm
Serge Mendjisky was born in 1929 in Paris. His father, Maurice Mendjisky, was a painter from the School of Paris, this is how Serge became acquainted with the world of arts since childhood. After completing his studies at the School of Fine Arts of Paris, he soon became a recognized artist and his work was exposed in Europe, Japan and the United States. He used photography to make his preliminary studies in painting.
By decomposing and recomposing the horizons of some of the most famous cities of the world like New York and Paris, Serge Mendjisky creates new urban landscapes which put into question our perceptive faculties.
Volumes, lights and colors create different visual rhythms which create new connections between time and space. Through Serge Mendjisky's creativeness, Broadway becomes an explosion of colored lights...
