Dipinto della scuola francese di Barbizon, paesaggio di foresta, olio su tela firmato Émile Bouneau e intitolato "La Forêt De Fontainebleau". Firmato in basso a sinistra. Sul telaio una vecchia etichetta dell'Esposizione. Cornice originale in legno dorato. Émile Joseph Bouneau è nato il 7 febbraio 1902 al 37 di rue Saint-Michel ad Avignone. Dopo essere stato studente all'École des beaux-arts d'Avignon, Émile Bouneau seguì, dal 1919 al 1925, i corsi all'École nationale supérieure des arts decoratifs di Parigi. Nel 1928 fece un lungo soggiorno a San Francisco. Il 22 aprile 1933, Émile Bouneau sposò Solange Blanc a Parigi. Il premio Abd-el-Tif, vinto con André Hamburg nello stesso anno 1933, gli valse un soggiorno di due anni presso la villa Abd-el-Tif ad Algeri. Se dipinge vedute di Algeri e della sua regione (il sito archeologico di Tipaza), i suoi dipinti ci dicono che è arrivato fino a Fez. Uno scrittore molto giovane interessato all'arte, Albert Camus, scrisse articoli sulla pittura alla rivista Alger Student e, frequentando naturalmente la villa di Abd-el-Tif, citò Émile Bouneau tra i pittori notevoli del suo tempo. Secondo Élisabeth Cazenave, i due uomini erano diventati amici. Durante la guerra civile spagnola, Émile Bouneau si offrì volontario nel campo repubblicano. Émile Bouneau dipinge nudi, ritratti (come un Vincent la cui dedica indica che si recò a Saint-Brevin-les-Pins nel 1947) e soprattutto paesaggi, ed essendo il suo soggetto preferito la foresta di Fontainebleau, propone a Jean-Pierre Delarge di collocarlo come continuazione della Scuola di Barbizon, anche se la finezza del tratto che crea una inconfondibile sensazione di vaghezza e che costituisce la sua personalità, lo distacca dalla pittura classica per collocarlo nella modernità. Morto nel 1970, Émile Bouneau è un artista che ha convinto galleristi e critici del suo tempo, Citato da Roger Bezombes tra gli straordinari attori dell'esotismo nell'arte, ha attraversato con discrezione il XX secolo ed è comunque rappresentativo di esso. Nel 1982 gli viene dedicata una mostra retrospettiva a Parigi. Si possono ammirare le sue opere: Avignone, Museo Calvet: Foresta di Fontainebleau. Cagnes-sur-Mer, Château Grimaldi: Il clown. Questo scorcio della foresta di Fontainebleau, nei toni caldi e rosati del tramonto, sembra quasi fluttuare davanti allo spettatore come una visione chimerica.
