About the Item

Superb impastoe Impressionist technique by the artist. Housed in the original French frame. Signed lower right and inscriptions reverso. Viewing welcome. Emile Gauffriaud is a French painter and watercolorist born in Brest in 1877. He was very successful during his lifetime as a regional artist. He is a well-known figure in the city of Brest, his tall figure, his wide-brimmed hat and his lavaliere tie are part of the landscape, because he often paints outdoors, for the anecdote he is envious because of the beauty of his wife, then that of his daughter, when she has grown up. The two women market his works in their art gallery in Pouliguen, a remarkable place for its Art Nouveau decor. The artist resolutely chooses to paint his country, his sea and his boats. We must add to his favorite subjects some landscapes, Breton of course, any time he makes some trips to the French Riviera, from which he returns with canvases and watercolors bathed in the light of the south, his painting is full of charm .
