About the Item

Evan Jones is a painter based in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from SCAD Atlanta and has exhibited throughout the United States. Jones's latest exhibition, "Destruction Derby Dreamland," follows upon his solo show from 2021, “Country Store." Here is how one art critic described that exhibition: "Country Store is a very funny celebration of the tropes and fixations of rural Southern life that blessedly avoids using a cudgel of irony or snark to make its points. This is an artist who can enjoy the excesses of homemade advertisements, primitive folk art painting styles and alternative history while offering a sharp-witted read on global art history mashed up with his countrified Americana...But more than that, Jones’ paintings are phantasmagoric fever dreams of alternative history that hilariously collide military and sports heroics and the romance of masculine adventuring in a tipped hat to European history painting. Jones then blends that painting tradition with the lowbrow American iconography of Nascar heroes Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt, tattoo art, Black Cat firecrackers, and cheap Olympia beer. Hilarity ensues...I haven’t had this much fun in an art gallery in ages." --Felicia Feaster, Atlanta Journal-Constitution (2/16/2021)

Maybe the horrendous can be okay?
By Jenny Day
Located in New Orleans, LA
Retreating from the stress and chaos of the last year, I created another landscape; populated by an army of friendly creatures. Here the burdens of coronavirus, climate change, and political division are dismissed by hot pink kittens that arc gracefully through meter showers and owls that bury into beds of daffodils. In this place worry is edged out by the fantastic and mystical snails trail neon candy canes through the scorched earth. The apocalyptic is supplanted by the surreal and the allegorical. Anxiety followed me. The escapist reflects and distorts its shadow world, the real, a funhouse mirror...
