He then decided to become a full-time artist and painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits/nudes in various styles up to his early death in 1955. Alphons Müller was the proverbial hardworking bohemian artist. He lived in a small cold room above a pup and often struggled to make ends meet. On one hand he would paint commercial views of local beauty spots - often of the Lake of Bienne. These paintings were generally executed using very thin paint layers (to make the expensive material last longer ...) in a very bright impressionist style. On the other hand, he would create intelligent, generous and deep reaching images - especially during the war. Originally an agricultural worker, he later worked as a painter decorator and served as a town hall official in his native Nis. He went on to create frescos, wall paintings and small paintings, which after joining local exhibitions, he exhibited in 1973 in Geneva, Switzerland and in the eighties successfully in Paris, at the Salon International d'Art Naïf.
