Opera esposta nel 1933 alla società permanente delle Belel Arti di Milano
Firmato in basso a sinistra , etichetta sul retro ,firmato in basso a destra
Giovanni Molteni (Cantù, 1898 – Sorengo, 1990) si forma sotto l’egida del pittore Ugo Bernasconi e, dopo l’esperienza della prima Guerra Mondiale, si trasferisce a Milano dove frequenta Carlo Carrà, Arturo Martini, Mario Sironi e Arturo Tosi.
Fondamentale nella sua formazione, da un punto di vista sia artistico che emotivo, è la partecipazione alla spedizione del dirigibile Italia al Polo Nord, dalla gli deriva l’appellativo di “pittore dell’Artide”. Negli anni Trenta partecipa regolarmente alle esposizioni della Permanente di Milano,
Nel 1933 dall'11 marzo all'11 aprile, partecipa IV° Mostra d’Arte del Sindacato regionale Fascista Belle Arti di Lombardia al Palazzo della Permanente di Milano con il dipinto: La cava di Marmi.
Durante i bombardamenti a Milano da parte degli angloamericani del ’43 viene distrutto quasi interamente il suo studio e con esso le sue opere. Nel 1949 tiene una personale alla Galleria del Milione di Milano che gli dedica la monografia 15 acquarelli e 4 disegni di Giovanni Molteni, con una nota di Carlo Carrà. Nel 1952 Monteni viene invitato alla Rassegna internazionale dell’acquarello dal 1800 al 1950 tenutasi a Delft, come rappresentante dell’Italia, assieme a Giorgio Morandi, Gino Severini, Filippo De Pisis e Arturo Tosi. Seguono esposizioni a Lugano e Parigi.
Nel 1953 partecipa all'Esposizione Nazionale d'Arte. Biennale di Brera e della Permanente, con il dipinto: Ulivi del Garda.
