About the Item
A fine impressionist landscape of the Palisades on the Hudson River by English / American artist Harry “Hal” Robinson (1867-1933). Robinson was born in Leominster, County Hereford, England. He spent much of his childhood in Liverpool, where his father was a prominent doctor and master chemist. Though American sources often report Robinson’s birth year as 1875, according to his baptism record he was actually born in 1867. He should not be confused with the American artist Harry A. Robinson or the British painter Harry W. Robinson.Hal Robinson arrived in NYC in 1893 and by 1900 had a studio on West 57th Street. Historians suggest that after 1910, Robinson painted at Old Lyme and was influenced by Childe Hassam and Willard Metcalf. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, at the Corcoran Gallery and at the Carnegie International.
Oil on canvas, signed lower right, stamped on verso “Collection of Paul Denz, Branford CT,” and housed in a molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 30 in H x 50 in W, actual; 36 in H x 56 in W x 1.75 in D. Ref:7

Tod Lindenmuth (1885-1976). Lindenmuth was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and later worked in Provincetown and Rockport, Massachusetts, with a home in St. Augustine. A founder of the Provincetown Art Association and one of the original Provincetown Printers, Lindenmuth was a semi-abstract painter and graphic artist who did much to promote modernist styles and was well known for his modernist, semi-abstract and marine subject paintings. Lindenmuth studied with Robert Henri and was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the Rockport Art Association. He was also active in Provincetown until 1941, and then retired to Florida in the 1960s, having spent his winters there since the 1930s.
