About the Item

SPANISH LANDSCAPE Size: 25 x 42.5 cm (including frame) Oil on panel A gentle and charming city landscape composition dated 1962, and executed in oil by the well-established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009) whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum. The painting presents a Spanish landscape with houses surrounded by lush greenery in the middle ground of the painting, and some houses situated on a terrain hilly landscape in the background. Executed in a semi-abstract manner, the artist has reconstructed this tranquil scene down to blocks of contrasting light and earthy shades of green, blue, brown, and white. The artist displays a mastery in the medium of thinned oil, using gentle and light brushstrokes that create an almost translucent and diaphanous effect that resembles the nature of watercolour. This oil on panel is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen lining. There is a light line across the picture, from previous framing. In our opinion it does not detract from the overall attractiveness and quality of the piece. It is otherwise in good vintage condition.
