About the Item

The dimensions listed include the frame. Brereton was born in Derby in 1954. He received his basic art training at the Derby Joseph Wright Art School although he is a self-taught artist. He works mainly in oils and specializes in marine subjects, his favourite subjects being deep water sailing ships of the 19th century. His work has been influenced by artists such as Montague Dawson and Thomas Somerscales. His love of ships and the sea emanate from having lived by the sea on the south coast of England. His work is recorded and illustrated in Denys Brook-hart’s book “20th Century British Marine Paining”, and E.H.H. Archibald’s “Dictionary of Sea Painters of Europe and America”. Examples of his work are exhibited at the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter, and at The Mariners' Museum in Newport...

Vintage Oil Painting Clipper Ship American Flag Nautical Maritime Seascape
Located in Palm Coast, FL
This original vintage oil painting on canvas features a majestic three-masted clipper ship with full sails and an American flag, entering a fortified harbor. A smaller sailboat glides nearby toward a stone tower and castle-like structure, enhancing the coastal narrative of this nautical seascape. The sky is detailed with soft maritime light, and the ocean’s textured waves are rendered in striking blue and green tones. The painting is signed in the lower left corner, though the signature is illegible, and is likely the work of a mid-20th-century European or American maritime artist. It is mounted in a richly detailed gilded antique-style frame, adding elegance and presence to any room. This seascape is ideal for collectors of marine art, vintage coastal paintings...
