About the Item
Gorgeous large-scale pastel colored landscape of a Southern California grapevine valley by Eugene (Jene) Jackman (American, 1910-1970), 1937. Rolling hills sprawl across this vast landscape, which is dotted with shrubs, trees, and plants. The dramatic ridge line adds interest and depth to the piece.
Signed and dated "Jene '37" lower left.
Presented in rustic giltwood frame. Image, 36"H x 52"L.
This painting has been confirmed to be the work of Jene Jackman by the artist's granddaughter.
Born in New York, Jene was the son of artists Violet and Oscar Jackman. He came to southern California with his parents in 1914. Raised in an artistic milieu, he began painting as a small child. By 1930 he had settled in Glendale and was an accomplished painter of the landscape near his home. He sometimes used the pseudonym Eugene Disney Jackman.
