This lovely Victorian landscape oil painting on canvas is by noted exhibited British artist John Horace Hooper. Hooper was particularly known for his landscapes and was fond of the subject of harvests. This lovely painting, painted around 1880, is entitled Harvest Time in Yorkshire verso. Hooper has perfectly depicted a horse and cart being loaded beside a winding stream and with the backdrop of majestic trees and cattle in a field beyond. A quintessential late summer's scene. Signed lower left. Provenance. Signed and inscribed with title verso. Condition. Oil on canvas, 40 inches by 24 inches unframed and in good condition. Housed in an ornate frame, 48 inches by 32 inches framed and in good condition. John Horace Hooper (1852-1906) was born in England in 1852. An active painter with a highly distinctive style about his landscapes and seascapes, Hooper made his debut in London at the Suffolk Street Gallery, where he exhibited from 1877-1879. He exhibited six times at The Royal Academy, together with exhibited work at The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, The Royal Hibernian Academy, and The Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery. John Horace Hooper was active until 1899 and died in 1906.
