This Oil on Wood American Landscape painting is done by John Mackie Falconer (1820-1903) and is signed center left. The scene is of New Haven Connecticut looking south, out on to Long Island. John Mackie Falconer was a Scottish-born American etcher, painter, and watercolorist. Born in Edinburgh, he came to the United States in 1836. Falconer was a friend of Thomas Cole, Asher Durand, Jasper Francis Cropsey and other artists of the Hudson River School, as evidenced by his impeccable skill in this landscape painting. This Mid 19th Century work was purchased from a private collection in Valhalla, NY and comes with frame. This artist is exhibited in many famous museums today, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. This piece is also published in The Ladies Repository by Hitchcock and Walden from Cincinnati, OH.
