John McGhie'Pittenweem Evening' Scotland
About the Item
Impressionist oil painting of Scotland's Pittenweem harbor at twilight, title 'Pittenweem Evening' East Neuk of Fife, by Scottish artist John McGhie. Signed and dated 1909. The harbor has changed very little, with the natural crescent of water along this fishing village row of stone and red tile-roofed houses.
McGhie is known for his paintings of Scottish coasts and seas. This one, at twilight, shows the reflections of light on the dusky waters. Lovely colors framed in newer complementary frame with dusky blue tones.
This oil on canvas painting has an inscribed on the back with the title and provenance, from the artist to Hugh Allan.
Well presented and ready to hang, with no visible defects, as it is, in the frame.
Height 18", Width 21'5" in the frame. The frame is about 2' wide. This is a lovely painting in dusky ochres, rusts and blues with white light reflections. Suitable for almost room in the house, a good size for any wall space. Ready to hang!
