About the Artist
Jon Blanchette
Jon Blanchette was born in Somerset, England, in 1908. He immigrated to Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1918. Artistically inclined at age six, he later studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute, where he received his BA. In 1932, Blanchette moved to Los Angeles, where he painted, did the architectural design, interior decorating and stage sets for Fox Studios. In 1948, he settled in Aptos, California, where he painted fine art and taught privately. During the summers of 1965–75, Blanchette held workshops in Mendocino. A romantic realist, he was primarily an oil painter but was also proficient with pen & ink, watercolor, and silkscreen. Blanchette died in Aptos in 1987. He had a membership for the Santa Cruz Art League and Marin County Artists. Blanchette exhibited at Santa Cruz Women's Club, 1959, and stood first in the Santa Cruz County Art Competition, Aptos Art Center, 1965.

- Scene in National Monument, Colorado, Southwest Landscape Oil PaintingBy James Emery GreerLocated in Denver, COOil on canvas painting by James Emery Greer (1903-1990) titled "Scene in National Monument (Colorado)". Southwest landscape scene painted in colors of green, tan, brown, and blue. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner, titled verso. Presented framed, outer dimensions measure 37 x 31 ¼ x 1 ½ inches. Image size is 30 x 24 inches. Expedited and international shipping is available - please contact us for a quote. About the artist: James Emery Greer was born and educated in New England. The majority of his pieces are of landscape subject matter, especially the grandeur of mountains and the streams rushing through. Before relocating to Colorado, Greer worked as minister in Massachusetts. Once in Colorado he became the director of graphics and publications for National Jewish Hospital. In 1971 he was interviewed for an article in the Colorado newspaper Rocky Mountain News in which he said "I was always drawing and sketching," he recalled, "but I never thought to do anything with it. It was a chance invitation to the Boston Business and Professional Art Club that triggered the painting." Greer had an interesting technique of working on his paintings from top to bottom. He has a mural of Wilson Peak behind the teller’s desk of the Colorado State Bank located at 1600 Broadway in Denver. He continued to paint over the course of forty years and created a body of work that rivals his contemporaries. Greer’s paintings are in the permanent collections of the University of Indiana and Boston University as well as many private collections. © David Cook GalleriesCategory
