  • Scene in National Monument, Colorado, Southwest Landscape Oil Painting
    By James Emery Greer
    Located in Denver, CO
Oil on canvas painting by James Emery Greer (1903-1990) titled "Scene in National Monument (Colorado)". Southwest landscape scene painted in colors of green, tan, brown, and blue. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner, titled verso. Presented framed, outer dimensions measure 37 x 31 ¼ x 1 ½ inches. Image size is 30 x 24 inches. Expedited and international shipping is available - please contact us for a quote. About the artist: James Emery Greer was born and educated in New England. The majority of his pieces are of landscape subject matter, especially the grandeur of mountains and the streams rushing through. Before relocating to Colorado, Greer worked as minister in Massachusetts. Once in Colorado he became the director of graphics and publications for National Jewish Hospital. In 1971 he was interviewed for an article in the Colorado newspaper Rocky Mountain News in which he said "I was always drawing and sketching," he recalled, "but I never thought to do anything with it. It was a chance invitation to the Boston Business and Professional Art Club that triggered the painting." Greer had an interesting technique of working on his paintings from top to bottom. He has a mural of Wilson Peak behind the teller’s desk of the Colorado State Bank located at 1600 Broadway in Denver. He continued to paint over the course of forty years and created a body of work that rivals his contemporaries. Greer’s paintings are in the permanent collections of the University of Indiana and Boston University as well as many private collections. © David Cook Galleries
