About the Item
This is a diptych of Fear no More the Lightning Flash and Sorrowful City #1 - Per me si va nella cita dolente. Both paintings are originals and are the same size.
The blood-red of the flash brought to mind Shakespeare and his statement about love. So this is about the different emotions one feels about love, and its changing orbit. Cool, hot, physical and passionate. Yet always there is the need to record this sensation in paint. I have tried to reflect the nature of the place we go to, so more of a sense of weight and solidity is attached to the emotion. One lightning flash is enough in one's life.
This work is part of a series that was stimulated by visits to several ancient cities that reflected on the juxtaposition of ancient buildings, some several hundred years old, coping with latest technologies. This Bougainville series (a reference to Bidonvilles and Bougainvillea) has lighter tones that belie the solidity of the ancient spaces and illustrates the intrusion of the high-voltage colour of natural interventions.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY;
His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown's birth. Solo exhibitions have been at the Said Business School, Wolfson College in Central Oxford, and most recently at the Sewell Centre Art Gallery and Cornerstone Art Centre in Oxfordshire, and the Boiler Room Gallery in Central Oxford. He has carried out several large scale commissions for private clients. Jon comments: Painting is a journey. One starts at one place - the blank canvas, and hopefully ends at a resolution. Sometimes one gets lost. My aim in this journey is to create original, contemporary art that is grounded in place. Chance and opportunity are the travelling companions; but the art is to know when the journey is complete. I tend to work in series, with references to locations that are abstracted, reflecting on themes of colour, movement and space. In some themes I use concepts of detail to examine and manipulate emerging abstraction. The challenge is to express its essence. My work in various places, including Provence with its Mediterranean sunshine, has enabled me to explore the complementarities, juxtapositions, hues and depths of colour. Recent visits to Crete and Sicily reinforced this approach to colour and vibrancy. There, the bright pinks, yellows and turquoise of the landscape and the richness of the place itself have been important in gradually changing my palette. The pictures you see are an expression of this personal place. His work is predominantly in acrylics but increasingly mixing the media to include oil, ink, and collage. His work is colourful and distinctive. His paintings are in private collections in the UK and elsewhere.

Abstract Landscape #135 (Diptych)
By Paul Kirley
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Abstract artist Paul Kirley creates visual experiences that connect people to place as though they were dreaming. Links between reality and abstraction are created as a series of painted layers and gestures, yielding a vibrant abstract landscape. The creative process of each artwork presents opportunities to live fully immersed in the stories and places of our dreams.
This abstract diptych landscape painting consists of two separate panels, the combined dimensions are 24 inches high by 48 inches wide. The sides of this motion filled artwork are painted white. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping available. It is signed by the artist on the back of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included.
Kirley grew up in a family of artists and designers. Art was an integral part of his life as a child. Kirley’s artistic influences vary; from a connection to landscape, buildings, family memories, to architecture, history, and landscaping. He discovered both photography and a love of fifties abstract expressionist painting in his teens.
Paul Kirley's works have been exhibited in North America, Italy, and Germany and collected worldwide.
