About the Item
José María Vila-Cañellas (Vic, Barcelona, 1913-2001). Painter. He trained in the School of Vic, in the Alemany of Barcelona and in the Fine Arts of Olot, in addition to studying painting with Manuel Humbert and recorded with Javier Noguels. He was a disciple of Juan Colom, Ivo Pascual and Emilio Bosch-Roger.
He began to participate in collective exhibitions and contests in 1932, and held his first solo exhibitions in Barcelona, in Sala Barcino, in 1941 and 1942, and in Gaspar in 1945, and later in Palma de Mallorca, Vitoria, Valencia, Madrid and several times in Barcelona and other Catalan cities.
Among his awards are the Third Medal of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1948, for his work "Mercat de Vic"; The Prize of the Contest "The landscape of Llavaneras", in 1950; The Masriera Gold Medal in 1953. It cultivates the landscape, with an impressionistic concept, in large formats, almost always accompanied by human presence. His most recent exhibition was the one held at the Lamvart Gallery in Barcelona in 1996.

Josep María Vilá Cañellas (Vic, Osona, 1914 - Barcelona, 2001).
Painter and draftsman. He was a disciple of Juan Colom, Ivo Pascual and Emilio Bosch Roger. It began to participate in collective ones in 1932, celebrating its first individuals in the room Barcino of Barcelona, and in the Gaspar (1941-1942).
Among his awards are Third Medal at the National Fine Arts of 1948, the Prize of the Contest "Landscape of Llavaneras" in 1950, Masriera Gold Medal in 1953, etc. Cultivate the landscape and the figure, within an impressionist concept.
One of his most recent exhibitions was held at the Lamvart gallery in Barcelona in 1996.
It is considered one of the most relevant exponents of Spanish Impressionism.
