French Impressionist oil on board view of a fisherman at the riverbank of the Seine in Paris next to the Bridge St Marie, with the old spire of Notre Dame in the distance. The painting is initial signed, located and dated bottom left. Presented in a patinated wood frame. There is a trade label for the Rowley Gallery in Kensington Church Street to the backboard. The Seine with all its reflected colours passing beneath the arches of an ancient bridge, a church spire just visible through the canopy of the trees, colourful boats moored, a fisherman sitting in the shade of the riverbank hopeful of a catch. The artist has managed to capture all the languid, quiet beauty of the scene in the midst of a bustling metropolis which is Paris. The water in the Seine is full of colour and nuance and the green of the trees give the painting a freshness. A very accomplished composition beautifully executed.
