Plums in the blue moon is a diptych painting by French-Japanese contemporary artist Lumi Mizutani, representing a traditional Japanese landscape in a Japanese style: branches of plum trees bearing white and blue leaves appear on a pink background under a blue moon.
India ink, Chinese painting, Japanese pigments and silver leaves on cardboards. Sold framed. 27.3 cm × 48.4 cm (composed of two panels, 27.3 x 24.2 cm each).
In this series of figurative paintings, Lumi Mizutani pays homage to Japan and its wonderful landscapes especially those at Higashiyama-ku in Kyoto and Ueno in Tokyo. The artist places a lot of emphasis on nature and trees in her works of art. This series is characterized by the use of India ink and color pigments together with gold, copper and silver leaf.
