circa 1950

About the Item

Michael Stoffa (American,1923-2001) (Rockport, MA) "Still LIfe with Oranges" Oil on Panel, signed lower right Painting: approximately 8” x 16” The painting needs to be cleaned and is not as bright and clear as the images indicate. Digital, cameras read through age and time. I tried to correct the image as best as possible. Born in Czechoslovakia, Michael Stoffa immigrated to America at the age of seven and began his studies at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, then at the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Arts Students League. As a well-known New Jersey teacher and a Cape Ann artist, Stoffa became known as a master artist of landscapes, seascapes, portraiture and still life. He held memberships in the Rockport Art Association, North Shore Arts Association, , Artists Fellowship, Burr Artists, International Society of Marine Painters, and the Salmagundi Club. He is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who, International Biography. Source : Internet SELLERS STATEMENT I have been in the art business as an artist and dealer since the early 80's. Almost 40 years now. I primarily concentrate on my own art. My art is derived in a variety of ways. I'm a responder. I respond to light, color, design, etc. and I love painting both outdoors on location and in the studio under a controlled environment. I try to convey an idea, mood or just simply a beautiful setting. I'm inspired by a wide variety of subject matter and styles of painting and do not adhere to just one way. My paintings have won numerous awards over the years and have been collected both nationally and internationally. They can be found in three museum collections, the White House Collection and many private collections. I try to photograph each piece as close to the original as I can possibly make it in a general sense trying to convey the colors and light quality. Not all colors reproduce as accurately as others. If when you receive the painting and you feel it is significantly different then what the photos show, please let me know and we can try to work that out.
