Frame in fair condition This cowboy-themed painting depicts cowboys and their horses resting in the shade. The painting is on canvasboard. It is in very good condition. The only flaw is that the canvas is almost imperceptibly lifted from the board in the upper right, but it is not visible – it can only be determined by pressing the canvas in that area. The frame is in fair condition - it is rustic and somewhat worn, but it goes well with the painting. I had difficulty finding biographical information on the artist. I believe the information below is accurate, but it is from the internet, not a published source. Mickey McGuire, the youngest son of a south Texas sharecropper, was born in Houston, Texas. A majority of his childhood was spent in Rockport, Texas, with the exception of the Great Depression years when his family traveled throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona following the cotton harvests. Mickey's first art instruction was under the assistance of his uncle, Reverend J.P. McGuire, who provided Mickey with an insight into light and shadow and form. The remainder of his formal training was from Borland in Houston where he studied landscape. Portraiture study under Faulk of New Orleans, and Ted Williams, then of Miami, who instructed him in capturing the mood of the sea. Mickey's goal has been to be capable of painting any subject matter and do it well. Thus, if he wished to be known as an artist, it was his desire to be worthy of the title. From WV News, West Virginia - Up to the present moment, not much has been written about artist Mickey McGuire that we could find. He was born in Houston on March 22, 1939, and died on Sept. 2, 1993. He lived mainly in Colorado and we know he was survived by his wife, Verdia, who passed away on March 24, 2013, at age 71. McGuire’s reputation is as a Western artist who focused on Native Americans, mountain lions and other wildlife, cowboys and landscapes that were depicted in all seasons of the year. Many of his works were quite small and might represent such things as Native Americans galloping on horseback with raised arms holding rifles.
