An abstract impressionist landscape painting by artist April Moffatt, this small and long format composition boasts a beautiful pastel color palette of blue, purple, and a beachy orange. A striking sunset glows a over the ocean's horizon line and peaks through the clouds that hang low over the sea. These fluffy clouds are full and boasting with color as they range from pure white to purple, orange, and deep muted blue. This work could be considered a skyscape as the cloud-laden sky encompasses most of the canvas. Loose brushstrokes and vibrant paint breathe work into the artwork as well the viewer, exuding a calming and uplifting effect.
Artist Commentary:
The glow of sunset spreads behind a bank of cumulus clouds over the ocean. Lots of visible brush work and palette knife work create a sense of motion and energy.
About the Artist:
April is heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into her paintings. She uses color fearlessly and is always striving to "capture the light". April wants her paintings to invoke the feelings of her subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
