While Ricardo Mulero readily oscillates between abstraction and representation, his paintings are alike in their handling of light, geometric composition, and painterly brushwork. The artist employs the traditional Venetian method of painting, applying thin, translucent layers of oil paint to a traditional gesso surface to achieve exquisite depth and luminosity. Here, the artist captures a quaint country landscape with a barn nestled amongst the trees of an apple orchard. The earth toned palette complements the soft brushwork while thin layers of delicate oil paint achieve a subtle luminescence.
The artist grew up in Puerto Rico and studied historic preservation at Columbia University and art at Parsons. He also taught interior design at Parsons. He currently resides in Hudson, NY.

Mulero works as a designer and painter in Hudson, NY. In his exhibition design work, Ricardo has synthesized powerful narratives into relevant immersive experiences for history museums, such as the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York City and the Field Museum in Chicago.
His training in drawing and painting began at a young age under the supervision of Spanish painter, Don Luis Bouzà, in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In the spring of 2014, while teaching interior design at Parsons School of Design, he enrolled in an oil painting class -- which rekindled a new chapter in his painting. Since then, Ricardo has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Puerto Rico and New York City, including Peter Madero Gallery, Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, Ateneo Puertorriqueño, in San Juan, PR, Catskill, NY (at CREATE Council on the Arts), Taller Boricua in New York City, and FIPAP (Fire Island Pines Arts Project) Biennial. Ricardo Mulero continues to benefit from art coaching at Parsons and the New York Academy of Art in his evolution as an artist.

Ricardo Mulero is fascinated with capturing the brilliance of light and the contrast of natural beauty with utilitarian landscapes. Here, he abstracted the city skyline of Hudson, NY. Buildings and rooftops in shades of magenta, teal, and green are segmented in the foreground and cropped with black power lines. A soft yellow sky is layered with thin strokes of gesturally applied pale blue paint, furthering abstracting the city landscape. The piece is in excellent condition and ready to hang as is. The sides are painted a very dark, warm magenta so framing is not necessary.
