In his Carmel-by-the-Sea art studio, Robert Lee Glick explores various painting styles. At GlickStudio, he draws upon his artistic imagination and refined skills in drawing and color theory while creating dynamic compositions. The styles span classic, cubist, representational, surreal, and experimental. Many are expressed via Robert’s lens of geometric or fractured reality that has been gained through years of working as a designer and graphic artist. Glick has been recognized with sixty graphic design & illustration awards including the 2024 American Digital Design Award for Illustration and a 2023 American Graphic Design Award.
Robert’s studies in art and design include New York City’s School of Visual Arts and British Columbia’s Vancouver School of Art. His paintings were juried into three of the triennial Schaefer Portrait Challenges and exhibited at the Honolulu Museum of Art at First Hawaiian Center and the Schaefer International Gallery. In May of 2024, Robert’s paintings were exhibited at the San Francisco Art Fair, at Fort Mason Art & Cultural Center. They have also been shown at The American Art Gallery, Carmel-by-the-Sea; Gallery MAR, Carmel-by-the-Sea; Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center, Makawao; Schaefer International Gallery, Kahului, and in Art Maui.

Out of many come one. A huge back mountain is formed out of scores of gas spewing smokestacks. The foreboding back mass fills most of the pictorial area. As one gets closer to the canvas, the complexity of the mass if revealed in low on contrast as we see the diverse variety of the stacks with accompanying petrochemical architecture. Above the stacks, plums of air pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides rise gracefully into the atmosphere. The artist focuses less on the by-product of the stacks and more on his giant pollution machine that he has so astutely rendered. The work is mostly monochromatic but the artist has indicted a red tonality of a sunset/sunrise that offsets the charcoal blacks and grays.
