1987

About the Item

Expression. 1987, canvas, oil, 60x80 cm The central focus of the painting is the shoreline where the boats are situated. The calm sea in the painting reflects the aftermath of the storm. The artist has used smooth brushstrokes to convey the stillness and tranquility of the water. The dark clouds in the sky suggest that the storm has passed or is receding. These clouds are depicted using darker tones, grays, and fading into lighter hues. STANISLAV KREICS (born on July 1, 1909 in Daugavpils, died on July 1, 1992 in Riga), painter Stanislavs Kreics finished primary school, worked as a photographer in Ilūkste. In the years 1938-1947, he studied at the Art Academy of Latvia (with V. Tones, A. Annus, K. Ubānas, for some time in the landscape master workshop of V. Purvītis, graduated from the master workshop of figurative painting by G. Elias with the diploma thesis "Return"). The artist left a very wide artistic legacy, one of the most popular artists of his time (about 5,000 works). He also worked with amateur artists, participated in the organization of Art Days. In 1980, he became the Meritorious Art Worker of LPSR. Member of the Union of Artists since 1950. S. Kreitz had his first solo exhibition at the Liepāja Museum in 1945 (111 works, mostly watercolors). In total, more than 20 personal exhibitions were created during his lifetime. The artist's main artistic genre is landscape - views of the marina and Latgale. The sea is painted in various moods, the artist talks about Latgale in his cycle "Past". S. Kreics is one of the founders of the Latvian tonal painting tradition. The artist's works are located in Japan, USA, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Moscow, England and Latvia.
