Tom Irizarry Studio
The Yearning

2023

About the Item

Inspired by European landscape painting of another era, the artist finds intimacy in an unexpected place. The changeable moon sends forth steady reverberating yellow light with the rare pigment, lead-tin yellow, also used by Rembrandt. The title, The Yearning, has a 2-fold meaning - the longing for bonding with something that has been lost in our times - ie, an unusually brilliant yellow pigment, and, Romance - equally beautiful and lost. Surrounded by buildings and cars in the cities he lives in, the scene is foreign to this painter, and yet he connects deeply, over centuries and continents to reveal a place where he can rest his weary heart and call home.
