Secret Meadow (signed twice with inscription to art critic) letter of provenance
Located in New York, NY
Wolf Kahn Secret Meadow (signed twice with unique personal inscription to renowned art critic, with letter of provenance), 1974 Pastel on Paper - signed twice and hand inscribed, accompanied by letter of provenance Signed lower left front, titled lower middle, and inscribed, dated and signed again on the lower middle and right front Frame Included: elegantly matted and framed in a blond wood museum quality frame with UV plexiglass This poignant yellow pastel landscape is by the renowned painter Wolf Kahn, whose work is famously characterized by abstraction and figuration, as his gorgeously colored landscapes transform into color fields. This particular work is special because it came from the private collection of distinguished art critic and artist Lawrence (Larry) Campbell, who received it as a gift from Wolf Kahn in 1974. It is accompanied by a hand signed and dated Letter of Provenance from Mr. Campbell's daughter which reads, "This painting has been in my home since 1974 when it was given to my father, the late Lawrence (Larry) Campbell, by the artist, Wolf Kahn. In the lower right hand corner of the painting, Mr. Kahn wrote in pencil, 'To Larry in friendship- Wolf 1974.' My father was also a painter, a Director at the Arts Students League of New York, Professor of Art at Pratt Institute & Brooklyn College and an Art Critic for Art News and Art in America Magazines, for over 50 years." The work is also hand signed by the artist, lower left, so it bears two signatures. (For security purposes, the letter is not reproduced here, but the buyer of this work will receive the original hand signed letter...

Untitled 0042, Original painting, Atmospheric Art, Industrial North, Romanticism
Located in Deddington, GB
Inspiration for my work comes from internalised imagery absorbed throughout her childhood in Northumberland and the North East of England. Images of declining industry, the closing of coal mines, abandoned shipyards and other associated heavy industries loomed large across the landscape. The atmosphere of loss, sadness was as palpable as the smell of smoke, tar and coke from the power stations. Philippas work consists of remembered imagery of past landscapes combined with the pastoral landscape in which she lives. The muted palette references the industrial while suggested imagery reflects the rural. Work produced references both worlds combining two genres, marrying post contemporary modernism with elements of classical romanticism. Two genres, two generations of artistic movements intersect with each other, creating a place where contradictions co exist. Disjunctive kinds of everything, hidden in plain sight, create a realm in which one can lose oneself. Implied abstract imagery reveals conflict between beauty and desolation ,whilst Romanticism and Modernism combine with clashing qualities of drawing and painting. Images develop through a series of intuitive acts. Repeated applications of thin films of ink and paint build depth and patina. Layers are often removed by washing and scrubbing, revealing a palimpsest of faded marks and former painterly decisions, exposing the underbelly, vulnerable and tender. Additional information: Untitled 0042 by Philippa Anderson [2023] Original painting Acrylic paint, Canvas, Charcoal, Colour Pencil, Pencil on Canvas SOLD UNFRAMED Signed by artist Image size: Height: 100cm (39.37 in) Width: 120cm (47.24 in) Complete size of unframed painting Height: 100cm (39.37 in) Width: 120cm (47.24 in) Depth: 4cm (1.57 in) Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look ARTIST PROFILE: Philippa was born and grew up in Northumberland before moving to Herefordshire where she currently lives and works. She studied a BA Hons in Fine Art at Cheltenham College of Art and has recently completed an MA at Hereford College of Art. She also holds two teaching qualifications , a PGCE for adult education and a GTP for Secondary school education. Inspiration for my work comes from internalised imagery absorbed throughout her childhood in Northumberland and the North East of England.Images of declining industry, the closing of coal mines, abandoned shipyards and other associated heavy industries loomed large across the landscape. The atmosphere of loss, sadness was as palpable as the smell of smoke, tar and coke from the power stations. The muted palette references the industrial while suggested imagery reflects the rural. Work produced references both worlds combining two genres, marrying post contemporary modernism with elements of classical romanticism. Connections. Through Philippas current and ongoing line of enquiry several connections are being explored which are both real and notional. The fusing of genres, the industrial and the pastoral which combine elements of classical romanticism and post contemporary modernism, these relate to her past and her present surroundings. Rarely associated elements of drawing and painting are combined on canvas adding to the narrative of her personal story. Work produced displays...

Minnie Minoso - Baseball Great, Original Framed Watercolor on Archival Paper
Located in Chicago, IL
Minnie Miñoso was a Cuban professional baseball player. He began his baseball career in the Negro leagues in 1946 and became an All-Star third baseman with the New York Cubans. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB) after the 1948 season as baseball's color line fell. Miñoso went on to become an All-Star left fielder with the Indians and Chicago White Sox. The first Afro-Latino in the major leagues and the first black player in White Sox history, as a 1951 rookie he was one of the first Latin Americans to play in an MLB All-Star Game. Miñoso was one of the most popular and dynamic players in White Sox franchise history. He helped the "Go-Go" White Sox become one of the premier teams of the 1950s and 1960s. A rare power threat on a team known for speed and defense, Miñoso also held the White Sox record for career home runs from 1956 to 1974. Limegreyrose, Beige, Orange, Green, Lemon Yellow, Gray Stripes, Geometric
Located in Kent, CT
Clean and precise, carefully ordered stripes and blocks of color in orange, green, pale lemon yellow, gray, blue and brown are lively and vibrant against the soft beige background. Signed, dated and titled on verso. Elizabeth Gourlay’s work is a meditation on color and form, a gradual yet progressive analysis leading to a complex vocabulary of shapes, color and line. Musical composition, emotional states and our collective subconscious resonate within bars, lines and blocks of color. The abstract forms emerge, layer and shift in precisely ordered, carefully composed rhythms. The artist contemplates the elements that make color in reduced forms come to life: size, flatness, relation to its edges, and how the presence of other colors affect how it is perceived. Gourlay draws inspiration from shapes found in everyday life and in her studio. The observed shapes either remain as they are or become simplified to their essential geometric elements. Subtleties in color, area, edge or orientation are the catalyst for emotive responses. Palette is minimized; the artist rarely uses a wide palette within one work. Rather, a broad range of colors are explored and then reduced. Gourlay investigates color properties: complementary or analogous color, value, saturation and color harmony vs. color anomaly. Elizabeth’s Gourlay’s work has been shown extensively throughout the United States. The artist is the recipient of numerous residencies, fellowships and awards including Artist in Residence at the studio of Sol LeWitt in Spoleto, Italy. Gourlay’s work has been written about in The New Criterion, Painters’ Table and Gorky’s Granddaughter, to name a few. Gourlay earned her MFA at Yale University School of Art, New Haven, CT, and her BA from Edinburgh...

Primrosegrey, Beige, Orange, Gray Blue, Yellow Stripes Geometric Abstract
Located in Kent, CT
Clean and precise, carefully ordered stripes and blocks of color in orange, gray blue, pale yellow, blue and brown are lively and vibrant against the soft beige background.
