Bror Julius Olsson “B.J.O.” Nordfeldt (1878 - 1955)
Bror Julius Olsson was born in Tullstrop, Sweden in 1878. He immigrated to the United States in 1891, later adopting his mother’s maiden name of Nordfeldt. Beginning his art studies at the Art Institute of Chicago where he was chosen to assist fellow artist, Albert Herter, with a large mural project for the McCormick Harvester Company. In 1900, he was sent to Paris by McCormick to help set up the completed mural at the Paris Exposition. While there, he studied briefly at the Academie Julian before traveling to England to study woodblock printmaking under F. Morley Fletcher. Returning to Chicago in 1903, Nordfeldt would spend the next ten years painting mainly figurative works in an academic style similar to that of the Old Masters. About the artist:
Painter and printmaker, Missouri regionalist Frederick E. Shane specialized in genre scenes, landscapes, seascapes and portraits executed in a variety of media: oil, watercolor, mixed media, gouache, tempera and lithography. Fundamentally a realist, his work also contains some abstraction, expressionism and surrealism used in treating his subject matter.
In the summers of 1925-26 Shane studied with Randall Davey at the recently-founded Broadmoor Academy in Colorado Springs. The Academy was established in 1919 by Spencer and Julie Penrose, prominent philanthropists and art patrons, who donated their family residence for the creation of a local art institution. In the 1940s and early 1950s Shane maintained his contact with Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (the successor institution to the Broadmoor Academy in 1936). He participated in a number of its annual Artists West of the Mississippi exhibitions and also became a close friend of Boardman Robinson, the Center’s director, and visiting artist Adolph Dehn...

Artist Biography: Otis Dozier (1904-1987) was raised on a cotton farm between Forney and Mesquite, developing a love for art and nature at a young age. After his family moved into Dallas in 1920, he received his earliest art training from well-known instructor Vivian Aunspaugh. Following his 1925 graduation from Forest High School, Dozier continued his art studies at the Dallas Art Institute with Olin Travis and Tom Stell. Also, during the 1920s, he accompanied his parents and three sisters on at least three automobile trips through the American West, familiarizing himself with the region that he would later depict in his art.

Nahum Tschacbasov
Biography :
Russian-American artist Nahum Tschacbasov (1899-1984) is known for his cubo-surrealistic works which feature a strong psychological element. Some of his work bears a resemblance to work of another Russian-American artist--David Burliuk. He was somewhat of a late starter, moving to Paris in 1932 to study under Adolph Gottlieb, Marcel Gromaire and Fernand Leger. He had his first exhibition in Paris in 1934. He then returned to the US where he joined Rothko and Gottlieb at the Galery Seccession. He was one of the co-founders of The Ten, a group of social conscious abstract painters which included Rothko, Gottlieb, Joseph Solman and Ilya Bolotowsky, among others.
In 1944, he began to work at Stanley Hayter's Atelier 17, a center for surrealistic ideas. Between 1936 and 1943, he had five one-man exhibitions at the ACA Galleries and participated in five group shows. He also exhibited at the Whitney, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Knox Albright Museum, the Chicago Institute of Fine Art and Corcoran, among others. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Met, the Whitney, the Brooklyn Museum and the Jewish Museum.
