New York art Critic Malcolm Preston wrote of Ceravolo's painting "The Bather" after viewing it in a solo exhibition. "Painted in a soft-focus manner, featuring a low intensity, gray, monochromatic tonal range, Ceravolo's giant images have the immediacy and impact of a billboard combined with the design stylizations of Art Deco...They are of their time, reflections of our mass culture." The Bather is and original oil on canvas that was painted by Ceravolo in 1982. The image of this painting was featured in various art magazines of the time to promote his one man shows in New York, Palm Beach and Los Angeles among other locations. I have included an image for reference of the Oct 1982 Arts Magazine and an image of the full page promotion featuring this painting. The Bather is painted in Ceravolo's classic soft focus realistic style combined with abstract "illusions" that appear to be floating in front of the oil on canvas portrait. This is the same soft focus look that Ceravolo became famous for with portraits he created for Elton John, Rod Stewart and Hugh M. Hefner in addition to the oil portraits that he was commissioned to created in 1977 for the lobby of the Palladium Theatre in New York City. In The Bather, Ceravolo has created a portrait that has tremendous character, you get a feeling of knowing the personality of the subject, yet Ceravolo paints only the necessary elements of the portrait to give it a personality, which is a trademark of Ceravolo's portraits. Ceravolo's Large scale paintings have received international acclaim for more three decades. His art came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create six large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City.
