About the Item
An interesting 1863 still life painted by George E. Forster (German/American, 1817-1896). George Forster was born in Bavaria, Germany and came to New York in 1865 with his wife and children. The artist occasionally exhibited under the name "Foster," a common misspelling of his surname. Forster is known for his ability to portray texture in his paintings and his common combination of fruit and animals. This still life is featuring a cracked egg, snail, fruit, goblet, bird's nest, and fly.
