About the Item
A fine mid century abstract expressionist painting in gouache of flowers through a paned window by Argentinian artist Leopoldo Presas (1915-2009). Presas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, He had academic training and started as a figurative painter though he later turned to expressionism. He tried several mediums as oil, tempera, charcoal and pencil on different supports including canvas, paper, paperboard and newspaper. The themes of his works have been very extensive, but the female figure was his main attraction. He also did still lifes, landscapes, harbors, erotic paintings and some expressionist and controversial series. Gouache on paper, possibly laid down on cardboard, signed lower right, matted in a linen lined mat, and housed in a simple giltwood frame. Some minor stains, edge tears, and imperfections on the linen mat. Not examined out of frame. Dimensions: 26.38 in H x 38.38 in W, sight; 30.63 in H x 42.63 in W x 1 in D. Ref: 8
