"Arcana" stems as a series of unique studies for an upcoming commissioned glass/metal wall at the Interdisciplinary Engineering building at the University of Washington in Seattle. Whimsical elements in vibrant colors interact with geometric silhouettes, inspired by Oskar Schlemmer's Triad ballet and Josef Albers' pedagogical experiments from the Bauhaus era; they also incorporate historical engineering tools.

Bravo uses multiple treatments of the image, that the artist relates to a specific place, this correspondence between space and transformation has led her practice to focus on the analysis of the places where she lives physically and emotionally, as a result, the works dwell between the document and the anecdotal.
Monika Bravo examines the notion of perception by questioning whether the world we live in, is but a mental construction; her artistic practice is used as a tool to decipher the laws that govern the world she lives in. Through this survey, she creates objects by incorporating still, moving, audio and interactive images to generate situations where she can materialize and communicate her emotional state. She wants to challenge the audience’s own perception of what they consider real by generating a platform where they are induced to connect by exploring, interacting, and at times by focusing on an object-place- scene for a duration of time in a manner that is both meditative and investigative.
Monika Bravo is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Bogotá, Colombia, who lives and works in Miami. In 1982, Bravo left Bogotá, moving to Rome to study fashion design, which she continued in Paris at Esmod, before traveling to London to study photography. In 1994 she moved to New York. Her work has received acclaim including a 1999 New York Times review which called her piece Synchronicity (from a group exhibition at El Museo del Barrio) a "standout...small, beautifully blurry video images of boats plowing through New York Harbor..." Henri Venne was born in Joliette in 1966 but now lives and works in Montreal. Since 1994, he has been showing his artwork, a combination of semi-abstract photography and painting, in solo and group shows throughout many galleries and museums in Quebec. Some of his most important shows include his solo exhibitions (D’)après nature (after nature) in 2004 at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Arts and still life in 2006 at Art Mûr gallery, which represents him in Montreal. He holds a masters degree from Concordia University in Fine Arts (1999) and now teaches art classes at Vanier and André Grasset Colleges, University of Montreal’s Department of Cultural Activities and also at Art Neuf Cultural Center. Abstract Expressionism meets graffiti photography. Cy Twombly in cyberspace. Existential physics. The trajectories of car bombs. These phrases came to mind at the show of Dennis Balk's new work, made during the last three years while he lived in Bahrain and traveled primarily in the Middle East.
The show is dominated by black-on-white gestural drawings on canvas from Mr. Balk's Faith Thumbnail series. Full of graphic and even painterly nuance, they turn out to have been made completely on the computer. In a smaller room, the Exhausted and Ideographic series features gaudy, vertiginous digital mixes of colorful photographs.
Originally a performance artist, he became known in the art world in the early 1990s for improvisational diagrams that brought different historical narratives into collision. One work in his solo debut at American Fine Arts in SoHo in 1992 charted the lives of Ho Chi Minh and Abraham Lincoln -- both fathers of their countries in different ways -- across white paper napkins. His 2003 exhibition at that gallery was titled ''Particles + Waves With Plausibility,'' as is a recent book of his work.
Dennis Balk is an educator, visual artist, writer, media designer and playwright based primarily in New York. Balk has an MFA Degree from California Institute of the Arts. Throughout the 90s and 00s he was an Art Director and media designer for television, outdoor, print and emerging tech and social/ media at; Arnell/ Bickford Associates, Frankfurt Gipps Balkind, Foote Cone & Belding and McCann Erickson, New York. At Amster Yard, the conceptual agency within McCann Worldwide, Balk was involved in concepting high-profile campaigns that ran both domestically and internationally. As an interactive and exhibition designer, Balk has designed significant exhibition work for; Princeton University (The Firestone Library), The National Building Museum (Washington DC), The Jewish Museum (New York) and The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington DC) in conjunction with the offices of James Ingo Freed. Balk has taught and lectured at a variety of Universities, most recently; UCLA in the Department of New Genres, the Università IUAV di Venezia, Yale University, Otis College of Art and Design- Public Practice MFA and as Coordinator of the Department of Fine Arts/ Computer Graphics at the New York Institute of Technology, Bahrain Campus. Since the late 80s his art work has addressed, in multiple formats (including several productions of his plays), the conditions of narrative and the narrative aspects of historicizing the present. His work has been exhibited internationally and reviewed extensively including; Artforum, Filosofia e Questioni Pubbliche, Bookforum, Art in America, Paper Magazine and The New York Times. While in New York, his primary gallery representation was with the seminal gallery, American Fine Arts. In February 2009, INOVA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee presented the early work survey titled, “Dennis Balk - Early Work 1890-2090”. In a smaller room, the Exhausted and Ideographic series features gaudy, vertiginous digital mixes of colorful photographs.
Originally a performance artist, he became known in the art world in the early 1990s for improvisational diagrams that brought different historical narratives into collision. One work in his solo debut at American Fine Arts in SoHo in 1992 charted the lives of Ho Chi Minh and Abraham Lincoln -- both fathers of their countries in different ways -- across white paper napkins. His 2003 exhibition at that gallery was titled ''Particles + Waves With Plausibility,'' as is a recent book of his work.
Dennis Balk is an educator, visual artist, writer, media designer and playwright based primarily in New York. Balk has an MFA Degree from California Institute of the Arts. Throughout the 90s and 00s he was an Art Director and media designer for television, outdoor, print and emerging tech and social/ media at; Arnell/ Bickford Associates, Frankfurt Gipps Balkind, Foote Cone & Belding and McCann Erickson, New York. At Amster Yard, the conceptual agency within McCann Worldwide, Balk was involved in concepting high-profile campaigns that ran both domestically and internationally. As an interactive and exhibition designer, Balk has designed significant exhibition work for; Princeton University (The Firestone Library), The National Building Museum (Washington DC), The Jewish Museum (New York) and The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington DC) in conjunction with the offices of James Ingo Freed. Balk has taught and lectured at a variety of Universities, most recently; UCLA in the Department of New Genres, the Università IUAV di Venezia, Yale University, Otis College of Art and Design- Public Practice MFA and as Coordinator of the Department of Fine Arts/ Computer Graphics at the New York Institute of Technology, Bahrain Campus. Since the late 80s his art work has addressed, in multiple formats (including several productions of his plays), the conditions of narrative and the narrative aspects of historicizing the present. His work has been exhibited internationally and reviewed extensively including; Artforum, Filosofia e Questioni Pubbliche, Bookforum, Art in America, Paper Magazine and The New York Times. While in New York, his primary gallery representation was with the seminal gallery, American Fine Arts. In February 2009, INOVA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee presented the early work survey titled, “Dennis Balk - Early Work 1890-2090”. His recent publications include; “Dennis Balk/1890-2090” (2010-channel 171), “Dennis Balk The Arabian Gulf” (2010-channel 171), “ash” (2009-channel 171), “Colin de Land, American Fine Arts” (2008-powerhouse books), and “particles + waves with plausibility” (2006-powerhouse books).

This photograph belongs to Jun Ahn's series 'Invisible Scape', which was shot between 2010 and 2014.
South Korean Jun Ahn came to study in the US, where she graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in art history in 2006, followed by two years of postgraduate study of photography at the Pratt Institute. While at the Pratt, she had her first work displayed as part of group gallery exhibitions, and began work on the "Self-Portrait" project, which to date is her most prominent series of photographs which she regards as “a performance without an audience”, an end of youth of sorts, and a coming to terms with the future.
In 2009 and 2010 she was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship at New York’s Parsons The New School for Design, and in 2011 received both the Dean's and a departmental scholarship. During this time her work received its first major exhibitions, including a joint exhibition with Kazuna Taguchi at PS 122 in New York.
