In this series, Halliday captures the interiors of his home and studio. The photograph depicts a light orange painted wall with white plaster patches over a mantelpiece. The artist likens the patches to clouds hovering over a horizon. Light blue styrofoam resting in the foreground provides an elegant detail of color. This still life photograph is complimented with a dark wood frame with non-glare glass.

The artist first gained recognition for his sepia toned silver gelatin prints of common place objects and food staples, emphasized by sublime balances of form, texture, and shadow one could liken to classical painting. In more recent years the artist began embracing his subject matter with modern pops of color in surreal arrangements; vegetables and fruits eccentrically coupled with fish nets and cutlery balanced on undefined tabletops, seeming to float in midair. In this series, Halliday captures the interiors of his home and studio. The photograph depicts a plaster wall that has been patched, creating cloud like designs on this raw bit of painted wall over the mantle piece. Pops of a soft mint green of the pieces of insulation on the mantle compliment the overall color palette. The white and golden yellows blur the line between photography and abstract art.

Decorating with Color Photography
Color photography evokes emotion that can bring a viewer into the scene. It can transport one to faraway places or back into the past.
The first color photograph, taken in 1861, was more of an exercise in science than art. Photographer Thomas Sutton and physicist James Clerk Maxwell used three separate exposures of a tartan ribbon — filtered through red, green and blue — and composited them into a single image, resulting in the first multicolor representation of an object.
Before this innovation, photographs were often tinted by hand. By the 1890s, color photography processes were introduced based on that 1860s experiment. In the early 20th century, autochromes brought color photography to a commercial audience.
Now color photography is widely available, with these historic photographs documenting moments and scenes that are still vivid generations later.
