About the Item

Black and White Image of two polar bears walking though the cold desert photographed by David Yarrow. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. David Yarrow’s 'Stop That Train' is a visually striking artwork that transports viewers to the mythological heart of the American West. Captured in Bryson City, North Carolina, in 2024, this piece celebrates the enduring romance and complex narratives of train robberies, a theme deeply entrenched in American folklore. Train robbers occupy a curious space in history—simultaneously feared and romanticized. Yarrow’s work invites reflection on this dichotomy, echoing Hollywood’s portrayal of outlaws as both affable rogues and symbols of rebellion against societal inequities. The backdrop of the Smokey Mountains adds depth to this visual storytelling, creating an evocative stage for a tale of daring and defiance. Through collaboration with the Smokey Mountain Railroad, Yarrow has masterfully crafted a scene that feels timeless yet grounded in cinematic tradition. The photograph combines historical inspiration with artistic precision, offering a modern homage to the Wild West and the allure of the underdog. David Yarrow is a British fine art photographer and one of the world's most spectacular and best-selling nature photographers. Visual storytelling is his craft, and large-format monochrome prints are his medium. Through elaborately staged settings, Yarrow conjures the magic of the great American history, from the Wild West to Route 66. In his wildlife photography, he captures the planet's beauty. Majestic lions, sleek panthers, and free-roaming buffalos populate his works, trumped only by the female bombshells Yarrow places beside them. While highlighting the untamed side of supermodels such as Cara Delevingne or Cindy Crawford, Yarrow portrays the wild beasts in the most human way possible. Red Dead - Grim cowboy riding on a horse in front of a steaming train wild west
By David Yarrow

Available in two sizes. High-end framing on request. Limited edition of 12. Each artwork is done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. "My cowboy worked as a cowboy extra and handler in another Taylor Sheridan series - 1883 - and it is easy to see why he and Sam Elliott got along. This one split second image caught my notice straight away as there is an anonymity to his face. We don’t need to see his eyes, because this is not a story about him per se, it is a story about the loosely governed wild west, where cowboys like him often made a living from doing shady things. He is playing to a genre before he is playing himself." - David Yarrow on "Red Dead...

The Manifest Destiny - b&w photograph showing a train and a native american
By David Yarrow
Located in Vienna, AT
Available in two sizes. High-end framing on request. Limited edition of 12. Each artwork is done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. "19th century artists often depicted Native Americans as passive contextual narrative in railroad images; they are present but only to frame the story, not make the story. They simply establish the scene. This was my intent one cold February morning at Horseshoe Bend on the famous Durango & Silverton Railroad high in the San Jose Mountains. The Native American is not on the bend to attack, he is there simply to proudly show his presence. It is for the viewer to imagine how the next five minutes unfolded.” – David Yarrow on “The Manifest Destiny...

Attacks on trains were a common occurrence when the rule of law was either difficult to implement or simply non-existent. Thin governance was an accepted danger on the Final Frontier. What is perhaps surprising is that history has looked fondly on the bandits, as if their means of living was laudable and even romantic. Our affection for the underdog knows no bounds and Hollywood played to this emotion by often characterising the bandits as lovable and misunderstood rogues. The narrative was often that the bad guys were the train owners for having the wealth in the first place; maybe they had disposable moral fibre as well. It was a dog-eat-dog world. No more was this better articulated than in the classic 1969 Western buddy film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The film - which was loosely based on fact - cemented both actors at the top of the Hollywood A-list, not just because of their acting, but because the public found affection for their characters and their affable, wise cracking roles. It was as if they played the good...

Purgatory

Located in Los Angeles, CA
Available in the following sizes: 52 x 63 inches, Edition of 12 71 x 87 inches, Edition of 12 “My plan was to build a set around an old Wild West railway line and go back 100 years. Perhaps we could then celebrate life on the final frontier with a photograph that could be printed large and benefit from the extraordinary resolution of modern-day cameras. I wanted a vignette with picturesque sentimentality. The community of Durango, Colorado was so supportive of the plan that 80 extras were sourced with no difficulty and there was warm approval to build the set near the main ski area...
