About the Item

In a series of portraits documenting the body in nature, Isaac’s model dons a fantastical mask — one side overgrown with fledgling greenery while the other half conjures a ghost of the human face hidden beneath — and succumbs to increasingly foreboding flames. Motivated by the health and survival of Indigenous bodies and Indigenous Lands, Isaac casts their model as a representation of sovereignty under threat: “The health of the Land will reflect the health of the body and the health of the body will reflect the health of the Land. One cannot survive without the other.” The figure’s mask embodies this dualism, representing Indigenous identity as inseparable from and equal to the Land. Isaac’s artistic practice traces the ephemeral, hand-crafting surreal and otherworldly masks solely for their portraiture, then heightening their narrative presence through lighting and digital manipulation. Ranging from darkly demure to expressively gaudy, their masks are opulent, clever, twisted, unsettling, sexy, and unquestionably queer. Their lens seeks a balanced relationship between body and mind, where masks externalize a rich internal world populated by grotesque and seductive creatures, guided by Indigenous ways of knowing, the queer gaze, environmental angst, and an apocalyptic perspective on the past and future. Duane Isaac is a Two-Spirit Mi’gmaq photographer and mask maker. They have been making masks and practicing photography for 10 years. Isaac studied professional photography at Dawson College in Montreal. Isaac’s work draws inspiration from glamour, the macabre and nature. Their work has been featured in Adon, HUF, Dark Beauty and various other online publications.

Adventure - underwater nude photograph - print on aluminum 30x36"
By Alex Sher
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
"Adventure" captures a topless young model in a flowing red dress suspended in dark waters, creating a dreamlike reflection on the surface. The interplay between her pale skin and the crimson fabric produces a haunting beauty, evoking both vulnerability and power. This photograph continues the tradition of underwater portraiture that challenges our perception of movement and gravity. The technical mastery required to achieve such clarity while submerged speaks to the evolution of contemporary fine art photography. The composition's dramatic black background enhances the otherworldly quality, inviting viewers to explore themes of submersion, transformation, and the boundary between reality and imagination. Original digital print on aluminum plate signed by the artist. Limited edition of 1 The artwork is furnished with certificate of authenticity, signed by artist with artist's name, edition number, edition limit, and other details. The artwork needs no framing; it is being hung by a hidden frame on the back. The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph. Decisively capturing the traces left by humanity, Pawassar's images are filled with a sense of universal nostalgia and pay homage to the passage of time and the extinguished moment, referencing documentary and street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastian Salgado...
